  The acquisition of this database was made possible through the support of the Unidel Foundation.
Access: Internet-delivered database. There are three ways to connect:
   1. from a public computer in the University of Delaware Library
   2. from a University of Delaware campus connection in your dorm, lab, or office
   3. from an off-campus connection (University of Delaware ID required)
Description:

Theatre in Video includes definitive performances of the world’s leading plays, together with film documentaries, online in streaming video. This release brings together 90 titles, representing hundreds of leading playwrights, actors and directors, including 30 of the legendary BBC Shakespeare productions of plays by the world’s most renowned playwright. Also included in this release are live performances, as well as film documentaries, covering the pre-eminent names in theatre: Henrik Ibsen, Eugene O’Neill, Arthur Miller, Samuel Beckett, Edward Albee, Luigi Pirandello, Harold Pinter, Bertolt Brecht, Laurence Olivier, Tennessee Williams, and many more. Seminal productions here include works such as Master Builder, The Iceman Cometh, Medea, Playboy of the Western World, Long Day’s Journey into Night, The Orestia, Awake and Sing, and Six Characters in Search of an Author, among many others.

Performances targeted for future releases include King Lear with Orson Welles; Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, with Lee J. Cobb; Beckett’s Happy Days, with Irene Worth; Neil Simon’s The Good Doctor, with Lee Grant and Marsha Mason; Tennessee Williams’s Eccentricities of a Nightingale, with Blythe Danner; and a long list of additional productions.

When complete, Theatre in Video will contain more than 350 full-length plays and documentaries.

Coverage: productions range from 1936 to 2004
Personalization: You can create personal playlists of clips and also share those clips with other users on the site. There are also editorially selected themed playlists for you to browse.

Software Requirements:

Theatre in Video is optimized to operate with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, and Firefox 1.0 or higher. In addition you will need the following:

  • Macromedia Flash Player v.8 or higher – To obtain the free player, visit the Flash Player download page. To test that it is properly installed, visit the Flash Player homepage, where you should be able to view a short Flash movie and get confirmation of your current version.

  • A minimum of 400kbps of bandwidth – 400kbps is required to view performances in the standard (400X300 pixels) view and 800kbps is required for the larger (700X522 pixels) view.
