In the First Person
Access: Freely available Internet database

In the First Person will eventually constitute a comprehensive index to letters, diaries, oral histories, and other personal narratives.

The first release provides in-depth indexing of more than 3,350 collections of oral history in English from around the world. The index contains approximately 20,500 months of diary entries, 63,000 letter entries, and 17,000 oral history entries. With future releases, the index will broaden to identify other first-person content, including letters, diaries, memoirs, and autobiographies, and other personal narratives.

Beginning with the next release, In the First Person will also identify first-person content within the various Alexander Street databases, such as American Civil War: Letters and Diaries, British and Irish Women’s Letters and Diaries from 1500-1900, and North American Women’s Letters and Diaries: Colonial - 1950. Citation information will appear for all users, while authorized subscribers will link to the full-text with the Alexander Street databases.
