WorldCat Local
Access: Freely available Internet database. There are links to some licensed electronic resources that are restricted to current University of Delaware students, faculty, and staff.
Description:

Search the collections of the University of Delaware Library as well as the collections of many other libraries worldwide. WorldCat Local is based upon WorldCat, the world’s largest network of library-based content and services.

Although WorldCat Local includes information about material in libraries worldwide, you always see information about University of Delaware Library collections and links to UD Library services first. Location and availability information for items is provided, and one click lets you view an electronic copy (if available) or request an item from another library. You can also save the record for an item on a list of favorites, write a review, or link to the item through various online bookmarking services, such as Digg and Del.icio.us.

Materials included are in all formats, such as books, articles, and audiovisual media. Article references are from the GPO, ERIC, PubMed, ArticleFirst, and British Library Serials databases. ArticleFirst includes some 16,000 periodical titles.

The default search mode presents you with one search box. Click on “Advanced Search” to search on keyword, title, author, subject, or ISBN/ISSN/OCLC Number, as well as to limit results by library, format, publication date, content, audience, or language.

A “Refine Your Search” box helps you narrow a large set of results.

Clicking on “About the Author” brings up WorldCat Identities. This provides information about an author, including an overview, publications timeline, most widely held works about the author, most widely held works by the author, audience level, related identities, useful links, and a tag cloud which gives associated subjects.

Some materials that are in DELCAT do not appear in WorldCat Local. These include items not cataloged (on order or in process), the Browsing Collection, course reserves, and physical objects. Access course reserves from WorldCat Local by clicking on “Course Reserves” in the upper right of the screen.
