Walter Isaacson to Speak at the 2008 Annual Dinner

    The award-winning author, Walter Isaacson, will be the guest speaker at the Annual Dinner of the University of Delaware Library Associates on Monday, April 28, 2008, at Arsht Hall, University of Delaware, Wilmington.  He will speak about the twentieth century’s notable scholar, “Einstein:  What Are Imagination and Creativity?” Walter Isaacson is the author of Einstein: His Life and Universe, published by Simon and Schuster in 2007.  Einstein: His Life and Universe won the 2007 Quill Award and was the first biography of Einstein published since all his papers have been available.

    "With unmatched narrative skill, Isaacson has managed the extraordinary feat of preserving Einstein’s monumental stature while at the same time bringing him to such vivid life that we come to feel as if he could be walking in our midst.  This is terrific work,” said Doris Kearns Goodwin.

    Walter Isaacson is known for his biographies of American leaders including Benjamin Franklin:  An American Life published in 2003 and Kissinger: A Biography published in 1992.  He served as the Chairperson of CNN and the Managing Editor of Time and is currently President and CEO of the Aspen Institute in Colorado.  He serves on the Board of Directors of United Airlines, Tulane University, and the National Constitution Center.

    The evening of Monday, April 28, 2008, will begin with an open bar at 6:00 p.m., followed by the dinner and program at 7:00 p.m.  Dinner prices are $90.00 per person for members of the University of Delaware Library Associates and $110 per person for guests which includes a first-year membership in the Library Associates.  The event is open to the public with a paid dinner reservation.  To request a printed invitation, one can contact [UDLA@udel.edu] via email or call the Office of the Director at 302-831-2231.

    Walter Isaacson has expressed his willingness to entertain questions following his talk.  The University of Delaware Bookstore will have copies of his books available for purchase and the author has agreed to sign.
