Library Announces African Newspapers Available


    The University of Delaware Library announces the availability of a new electronic resource, African Newspapers. 

    African Newspapers provides access to more than forty fully searchable African newspapers published between 1800 and 1922 and features titles from the continent of Africa including from Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. Languages include English, German, French, Portuguese, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Sotho, and others.

    African Newspapers is the second phase of the World Newspaper Archive in partnership with Readex, a division of NewsBank.  The first phase was Latin American Newspapers. The University of Delaware Library is a charter participant in the World Newspaper Archive. The project will eventually encompass the news output of other major regions, including Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Eastern and Central Europe.

    The database, African Newspapers, is available to University of Delaware faculty, students, and staff as a licensed resource from the Library Database link on the Library Web page at [www.lib.udel.edu] or directly at [www2.lib.udel.edu/database/an.html].
