Library Offers Genealogy Workshops


The University of Delaware Library is presenting two fall workshops on genealogy. The workshops will be “Genealogy for Beginners” and “Using Library Resources to Find Biographical and Genealogical Information in Historical American Newspapers”

Genealogy for Beginners will cover the basics for researchers who are just starting to work on family histories. The workshop will present an overview of the types of records that contain genealogical information as well as research strategies for finding and recording this data. Attendees will learn how to search the online database Ancestry Library Edition for U.S. census records.

          Presenters:      Rebecca Knight, associate librarian, and Linda Stein, librarian,
                                       in the Reference Department

Using Library Resources to Find Biographical and Genealogical Information in Historical American Newspapers will discuss historical newspaper resources available from the University of Delaware Library, including databases and web pages. The following databases will be highlighted: America’s Historical Newspapers (1690-1922), The Historical New York Times (1851-2006) and The Pennsylvania Gazette in Accessible Archives (1728-1800).

These workshops are available at no charge and are open to the University of Delaware students, faculty and staff as well as to the general public.
