The University of Delaware Library announces that Dr. Janet Hethorn, Professor and Chair, Department of Art, will present “Re-think, Re-use, Re-fashion” at Noon on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, in the Class of 1941 Lecture Room in the Morris Library as part of the University of Delaware Assembly of Professional Staff (UDLAPS) “Scholar and the Library Series.” The brown-bag luncheon program with light refreshments is open to the public.
Dr. Janet Hethorn is Professor and Chair of the Department of Art, University of Delaware. As a designer and writer, she focuses on aesthetic response and contextual understanding of style and appearance. Current research projects examine how viewers respond to expressions of visual style in everyday situations and the issues that emerge from these responses. Her studio work in fashion integrates these findings with an exploration of performance, movement, and garment fit. She has developed innovative research and teaching methods using electronic media, and explores ways to engage students in design thinking across disciplines. Dr. Hethorn won the Best Sustainable Design award at the International Textiles and Apparel design exhibition in 2006 and again in 2008. Her book, Sustainable Fashion, Why Now (Fairchild Books) was published in April 2008.
