Priority has been given to the digitization of those yearbooks for the special reunion gatherings to be held during the University of Delaware Alumni Weekend 2011. Over the course of the next year, Library staff will continue to digitize additional years of the Blue Hen and make them freely available online. The Blue Hen began publication in 1911 and ceased publication in 1999.
The digitization project was coordinated by Mary Durio, Head of the Center for Digital Collections, under the leadership of Gregg Silvis, Assistant Director for Library Computing Systems.
“I think that alumni will greatly appreciate the ability to look through the Blue Hen yearbooks of their time at the University. It will be a wonderful stimulus for memories and reflections,” commented Cindy Campanella, Director of Alumni Relations.“The online Blue Hen yearbook is one of the many Delaware-related resources to be created and made available by the Library,” stated Gregg Silvis. “I am hoping the yearbooks will be much viewed and enjoyed.”
“Alumni of the University of Delaware will enjoy perusing the online version of the Blue Hen which will also have word-searching capability,” observed Susan Brynteson, Vice Provost and May Morris Director of Libraries.
