Scholar in the Library Series about Zane Grey
The University of Delaware Library announces the Scholar in the Library Series presentation by Dr. Thomas Pauly, Professor of English and Associate Chair of the English Department at the University of Delaware, on his research on the life of Zane Grey on Tuesday, November 15, 2005, from Noon through 1:00 p.m. in the Class of 1941 Lecture Room of the Morris Library. The program with light refreshments is open to the public.
Dr. Pauly will present an overview of his book Zane Grey: His Life, His Adventures, His Women recently published by The University of Illinois Press. He will discuss the varied sources of his research, including Zane Gray's baseball, his dentistry, his fishing, his Westerns, his many women and especially Dolly, his wife.
Dr. Pauly is in charge of the undergraduate curriculum in the English Department. His area of concentration is the period from the Civil War to the Viet Nam era, especially the 1920s. For ten years, he was the Director of the American Studies Program. Dr. Pauly is also the author of An American Odyssey: Elia Kazan and American Culture (Temple University Press, 1983), and Chicago: with the Chicago Tribune Articles That Inspired It (Southern Illinois University Press, 1997). In addition to these publications, he has edited and written an introduction for a reprint of Around the World on a Bicycle by Thomas Stevens, who was the first person to ride a bicycle across the United States and then around the world.
