Use of Special Collections by Outside Groups Policy

The Special Collections Department houses the rare books, manuscripts, archival collections, broadsides, historical maps, and other materials in the collections of the University of Delaware Library that need special care and preservation. University of Delaware faculty, students, staff, visiting scholars and members of the public may use the collections for research purposes in the reading room during the Department's regularly scheduled hours.

The facilities are not generally available for private meetings or receptions to groups not affiliated with the University. Special arrangements may, however, be made for organizations associated with the special collections community to meet in the Special Collections Department on an evening or weekend. Examples of such groups are local or visiting book collectors, rare book librarians, or archivists attending a local conference, or scholarly organizations that encourage the use of rare books and manuscripts in research. All special requests should be approved by the Vice Provost for Libraries.
