AREA: ARchives of European Archaeology
A research network dedicated to the history of archaeology, with particular emphasis on the archives of the discipline, their promotion and preservation. The heart of the site consists of two sections. The first, “a thematic track,” offers “substantive, original research” examining the history of archaeology and drawing on “hitherto unknown or unexploited archival material.” The second section consists of a database of catalog entries for archival materials relevant to the history of archaeology in Belgium, Britain, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden.

The Mayan Epigraphic Database Project
The objective of the Mayan Epigraphic Database Project (MED) is to provide a networked information resource for Classic Mayan epigraphic scholars. The MED Glyph Catalog includes tables of glyph images (“gnumbers”), semantic values (“svalues”), and phonetic values (“pvalues”). In the future, MED plans to migrate the Glyph Catalog into a relational database.
Metis: QTVR Interface for Ancient Greek Archaeological Sites
Designed by Bruce Hartzler of the Department of Classics at the University of Texas at Austin, Metis is a collection of QuickTime VR movies that allow users to explore the ruins of nineteen ancient Greek archaeological sites, including the Acropolis in Athens and the Temple of Aphaia in Aegina. Most movies are accompanied by site plans, which permit users to map out their virtual expeditions. Several of the movies also include embedded links that connect users to related information provided by the Perseus Project.
