Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Manual, 1987. Washington, DC: Office of Management and Budget, 1987. LOCATION: Morris Library - Reference (Ref HF1042 .A55 1987): Classification system used by Federal Government to label all industries. Useful because many industrial statistics are given according to SIC code number. Use Manual to determine the code number assigned to a given industry.

North American industry classification system (NAICS). Washington, DC: Office of Management and Budget, 2007. LOCATION: Morris Library - Reference (Ref HF1042 .A55 2002) LOCATION: Internet (http://www.census.gov/epcd/www/naics.html): A new north American common classification system to replace the existing classification of each country, the Standard Industrial Classification (1980) of Canada, the Mexican Classification of Activities and Products (1994), and the Standard Industrial Classification (1987) of the United States.

LOCATION: Morris Library - Reference (Ref HA1B .S725): Subject guide to published and non-published U.S. and international sources of statistics. Appendices give names and addresses of issuing bodies. Also has annotated bibliography of many statistical sources.

LexisNexis Statistical. LOCATION: Library Databases: The Power Tables section provides quick access to selected statistical data. The Abstracts section indexes and abstracts statistical publications issued by the federal government, state governments, private publishers, and international and intergovernmental organizations. LexisNexis Statistical includes hypertext links to agency web sites and to the full text of the publication, if the agency has made it available. It is the equivalent to the print indexes American Statistics Index (ASI), Statistical Reference Index (SRI), and Index to International Statistics (IIS), located in the Reference Room. Fedstats
LOCATION: Internet (http://www.fedstats.gov/): More than 100 agencies in the United States Federal Government produce statistics of interest to the public. The Federal Interagency Council on Statistical Policy maintains this site to provide easy access to the full range of statistics and information produced by these agencies for public use. Includes a browse by topic section called FedStats: A to Z.

STAT-USA LOCATION: Library Databases: Provides statistics and other business and economic information from more than 50 federal agencies.

Statistics of U.S. Businesses LOCATION: Internet (http://www.census.gov/csd/susb/susb.htm): Statistics of U.S. Businesses (SUSB) is an annual series that provides national and subnational data on the distribution of economic data by size and industry. Statistics of U.S. Businesses covers most of the country's economic activity. The series excludes data on self-employed individuals, employees of private households, railroad employees, agricultural production employees, and most government employees.

Also included is per share data on the Standard & Poor's 400 companies. This is updated by a supplement, Analyst's Handbook: Monthly Supplement.

County Business Patterns, United States. Washington, DC: U.S. Dept. of Commerce, Bureau of the Census. Annual. LOCATION: Internet (http://www.census.gov/epcd/cbp/view/cbpview.html) LOCATION: Morris Library - Microforms (CD-ROM 25): Statistics on establishments, payroll, and employment by SIC code number and county location. Useful for analyzing market potential, measuring the effectiveness of sales and advertising programs, setting sales quotas, analyzing the industrial structure of regions, and making basic economic studies of small areas.

Appendix B includes statistics relating to income, employment and production. Other data includes GNP, interest rate, balance of trade, etc.

Statistics given includes imports, exports, industrial production, stocks and construction, etc. This source is updated monthly by the OECD Main Economic Indicators.

Predicasts Forecasts. Cleveland: Predicasts. Quarterly with annual cumulation. LOCATION: Morris Library (HC101 .P7) Lib. has: 1982-1995: Similar to Basebook, contains forecasts for variety of business and economic statistics as well as for all industries according to a modified 7-digit SIC code system.

Standard & Poor's Industry Surveys. New York: Standard & Poor's Corporation. 2 vols. Quarterly. LOCATION: Morris Library - Reference (Ref HC106.6 .A1 S73): Provides analyses of all major domestic industries. Each report is divided into Basic Analysis and Current Analysis which are revised periodically. Covers industry prospects, trends, investment outlook, comparative company analysis, and latest developments. There is a subject guide and a company index. Also contains the Earnings Supplement which gives revenue and earnings for more than 1,200 firms.

LOCATION: Morris Library - Reference (Ref HC101 .S74a) At Reference Desk.: Current Statistics (monthly updates) contains a variety of business and industrial statistics such as output, inventories and prices. Basic Statistics (irregular) covers eight broad industry groups plus price indexes, and income and trade statistics. S&P's Statistical Service: Security Price Index Record (Ref HC101 .S74b) lists various stock price indexes over time.

Census Statistics

The Economic Censuses, Including censuses of (Agriculture, Construction, Industries, Enterprise Statistics, Manufactures, Mineral Industries, Minority and Women-Owned Businesses, Outlying Areas, Retail Trade, Service Industries, Transportation, and Wholesale Trade) are taken every five years in years ending with a two or a seven. The census of Population and Housing is taken every ten years in the years ending in zero. All censuses are located in the Census Area on the Lower Level, in alphabetical order, across from the Documents Office.
