Business & Company Resource Center provides company and industry intelligence on thousands of global companies. Searches can be done on company name or ticker symbol, industry code/description (SIC or NAICS), subjects in article, geographic search, or personal name. Searches can be limited by journal name, date range, or content area.
Mergent Online

Mergent Online combines information resources for business and financial research, including sources of U.S. and international company data, U.S. annual reports on companies, and industry reports.
EDGAR Database of Corporate Information
LOCATION: Library Databases [restricted to UD]
Annual report and 10-K or 10-KSB information on publicly-traded companies.
Key Business Ratios
LOCATION: Library Databases [restricted to UD]
By comparing an individual company's financial statements with Key Business Ratios, you can compare a company's business ratios with the industry. Internet Explorer 5.5 is recommended.
Standard & Poor's Industry Surveys. New York: Standard & Poor's (quarterly).

Databases to Locate News Articles

ABI/INFORM (1971-)

ABI/INFORM provides citations and abstracts for articles from over 1,000 business and management journals.
General BusinessFile ASAP (1980-)
LOCATION: Library Databases [restricted to UD]
General BusinessFile ASAP indexes more than 900 business magazines and journals and provides access to the full text of articles published in 460 of these periodicals.
LexisNexis Academic
LOCATION: Library Databases [restricted to UD]
LexisNexis Academic supplies full-text information from newspapers, the legal literature, and other sources on a variety of topics. The database is organized into five major areas: "News," "Business," "Legal Research,' "Medical," and "Reference." Select either "News" (for general news articles) or "Business." For "News," choose the "Guided News Search" tab instead of the "Quick News Search" tab if news older than the past two years is needed. Under "Business" select "News" for business articles from newspapers, magazines, journals, wires, and transcripts or "Industry & Market" for news from industries.

Information on Countries

Country Profiles (annual, 1996-)

The Country Profiles database provides background and historical context of current economic and political events for each country. There are maps and tables of key economic data for the past five years, as well as links to EIU ViewsWire (Economist Intelligence Unit). EIU ViewsWire offers additional background and analytical information on countries.
Country Reports (monthly with quarterly updates, 1996-)

The Country Reports database provides an analysis of current economic trends for selected countries. Each report examines and explains the issues shaping the country: the political science, economic policy, the domestic economy, and foreign trade and payments.
EIU ViewsWire (updated daily, 1996-)

EIU ViewsWire is a web-based intelligence service from the Economist Intelligence Unit, offering analysis on key economic, political, and business developments around the world and daily articles on any of 195 countries. The content of EIU ViewsWire includes the EIU's perspective on recent events and their impact on economic, political, and business conditions, as well as intelligence and economic information on countries. The database includes tables of macroeconomic forecasts, summaries of expectations, and consensus survey results.

STAT-USA

Business and economic information from more than 50 federal agencies. STAT-USA is organized into two main parts: State of the Nation (current/historical economic and financial releases plus economic data) and GLOBUS & NTDB (current and historical trade-related releases, international market research, trade opportunities, country analysis, and a trade library, the National Trade Data Bank). Select GLOBUS & NTDB, "Market and Country Research," and a subcategory of "Industry Sector Analysis Reports," "Best Market Reports," or "International Market Insight Reports."
International Trade Statistics Yearbook. New York: United Nations. (annual, usually several years behind)

Volume one lists statistics by country, while volume two lists them by commodity.
LexisNexis Statistical (1973-)
LOCATION: Library Databases [restricted to UD]
LexisNexis Statistical provides access to statistics produced by federal agencies, states, and intergovernmental organizations. Three search forms are available. Click on SearchTables™ Research Edition to search for words that appear in statistical tables. Searches may be narrowed by geographic, demographic, economic breakdowns, or by frequency of data; and a period of coverage may be specified. From a list of results, click on "Go to Table" to display a complete statistical table. Click on Search Abstracts for index information on statistical publications. From a list of results, click on "Go to Abstract" to display an abstract, with information on where the complete statistical table may be located. Click on Links to jump to other Web sites with useful information about statistics.
