The BFI promotes understanding and appreciation of Britain's film and television heritage through a range of activities and services. The website includes information about BFI festivals, publications, the British National Film and Television Archive (NFTVA), factsheets, and educational initiatives.

Online database, listing thousands of movies and TV shows, which can be searched by: title; cast, crew, or character name; keyword; and other search key types. News listings about the movie industry can be found here as well.

A portal site for festival news, Filmfestivals.com also provides a useful search engine / clearinghouse for film festival information.
- Motion Picture Association of America
The MPAA and its international counterpart, the MPA, serve as the voice and advocate of the American motion picture, home video, and television industries. The site archives articles on issues of concern to the film industry, including copyright, new techonologies, and film piracy, explains the MPAA film rating system, and provides a searchable database for all films with MPAA ratings.

This British site provides an on-line tour of this unique collection of items relating to 19th century pre-cinema history, early motion picture technology, selected stars from the 1920's to the 1940's, and Disney memorabilia.

This web site by Thomas Weynants contains material from private and museum collections and focuses mainly on pre-cinema and early film technology.
- Edison Motion Pictures (Library of Congress)
The Motion Pictures and Sound Recordings of the Edison Companies collection of the Library of Congress site features 341 Edison motion pictures, 81 disc sound recordings, and other related materials.
- The Media History Project
The University of Minnisota maintains this guide which includes online access to materials relevant to the study, appreciation, and understanding of film, television, and media history. Includes related Internet links, bibliographies, lists of professional organizations and resources, and a timeline of key events in media history.
- Museum of the Moving Image
The Museum's mission is to advance the public understanding and appreciation of the art, history, technique, and technology of film, television, and digital media. It does so by collecting, preserving, and providing access to moving-image related artifacts; screening significant films and other moving-image works; and presenting exhibitions of artifacts, artworks, and interactive experiences.
- Origins of American Animation (Library of Congress)
This Library of Congress site represents the development of early American animation with a collection of 21 animated films and 2 fragments, spanning the years 1900 to 1921 and including clay, puppet, and cut-out animation, as well as pen drawings.

Browse or search 15,000 New York Times movie reviews. Included are all films reviewed since 1960, reviews of all Best Picture Academy Award winners, as well as The New York Times guide to Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made.
- Rotten Tomatoes
This metasite culls reviews from a variety of newspapers, magazines, and web publications and presents brief snippets of them to provide a snapshot of a film's critical reception. Each film is assigned a cumulative rating based on the percentage of positive reviews it receives.

- Academic Film Archive of North America
The mission of The Academic Film Archive is to acquire, preserve, document, and promote academic film by providing an archive, resource, and forum for continuing scholarly advancement and public exhibition. The site contains information on dozens of academic filmmakers as well.
- Asian Film Archive
The Asian Film Archive”s mission is to “Save, Explore and Share the Art of Asian Cinema.” This site includes links to newsletters and information about ongoing projects.
- British Columbia Archives (Moving Images)
The collection includes extensive collections of case photographs (daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes), glass negatives, lantern slides, modern transparencies, flexible film negatives, photographic prints and engraving plates, as well as 3,200 moving image titles.
- Firing Line Television Program Collection
William F. Buckley Jr.'s television show Firing Line, a news and politics talk program, was broadcast from 1966 - 1999. The collection includes videotapes of approximately 1,500 shows, as well as transcripts and other items. The material available for a particular program varies, however some shows are streamed as Real Media files.
- International Federation of Television Archives
This international professional association was established to provide a means for co-operation amongst broadcast and national audiovisual archives and libraries concerned with the collection, preservation and exploitation of moving image and recorded sound materials and associated documentation.
- Internet Archive Movie Archive
This collection allows for its users to search many moving image databases (such as the esteemed Prelinger Archives, which contains over 1,200 “ephemeral” (advertising, educational, industrial, and amateur) films made from 1927 through the present) and download or stream clips for free.
- Library of Congress (Motion Pictures)
All copyrighted United States films from 1942 on are, in theory, on deposit in the LoC, with seven to eight thousand added each year. The collection also contains many films made before 1942 and many foreign films.
- Moving Image Collections
MIC is an integrated online catalog of moving images, with an archive directory and links to resources on moving images and moving image preservation.
- Museum of Broadcast Communications
This resource includes archives and other web resources in the area of broadcasting, including an online version of the Encyclopedia of Television.
- National Archives and Records Administration
The NARA multimedia collections include nearly 300,000 reels of motion picture film, more than 200,000 sound and video recordings.
- National Public Broadcasting Archives
Users can search archival records holdings of major non-commercial broadcasting entities in the United States at this site. Links to other broadcasters and repositories are included.
- Pacific Film Archive
The University of California - Berkeley archive holds more than 8,000 films and video works, with strengths in Japanese and Soviet cinema, and American avant garde and experimental film.
- Pathe Films Digital Archive
Free registration allows researchers to download clips from the entire 3500 hour British Pathe Film Archive for educational use. The Archive covers news, sports, social history, and entertainment from 1896 to 1970.
- Public Moving Image Archives and Research
Centers
The Library of Congress maintains this site, which features a list of many respected motion picture archives. This resource is particulary strong on international film and archives.

- Independent Media Arts Preservation
IMAP is a nonprofit service, education, and advocacy organization committed to the preservation of non-commercial electronic media. The website provides access to information about preservation resources, a listserv, education, and training programs.
- National Film Preservation Board
The NFPB works to ensure the survival, conservation and increased public availability of America's film heritage. The site includes a list of films on the National Film Registry.
- National Film Preservation Foundation
The NFPF supports activities nationwide that preserve American films and improve film access for study, education, and exhibition. The site includes information on grant programs and collaborative projects to help libraries, museums, and archives preserve films and make them available for study and research.

- Association of Moving Image Archivists
AMIA is the largest non-profit professional membership association for individuals and institutions concerned with the preservation of moving images.
- Society for Cinema & Media Studies
The goals of SCMS are to promote all areas of media studies within colleges and universities; to encourage and reward excellence in scholarship and writing; to facilitate and improve the teaching of media studies as disciplines and to advance multi-cultural awareness and interaction.
- Society for Visual Anthropology
The SVA is a section of the American Anthropological Association that promotes the study of visual representation and media. SVA members are involved in all aspects of production, dissemination, and analysis of visual forms, including film and video.
- Theatre Historical Society of America
The Theatre Historical Society of America has been dedicated to documenting the rich heritage of historic theatres in the United States -- from 19th century opera houses, early nickelodeons, small town and neighborhood theatres, to ornate movie palaces, drive-ins, and early multiplexes.

- Drew's Script-O-Rama
This site provides hundreds of links to on-line film and TV scripts, transcripts of films, and anime scripts in various formats.
- DVD Beaver
DVD Beaver offers reviews, articles, and comparisons covering DVD releases from all regions. It also posts side-by-side comparisons of DVD transfers, including frame grabs and bitrate charts.

This site provides information on events and news related to the film and televison music industry.
