Historical Maps of the United States
Digitized maps from the Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection, University of Texas at
Austin.
Mapping History: The Darkwing Atlas Project
A multidisciplinary project of the University of Oregon, this cultural and historical atlas features both static and interactive maps designed to enhance students' learning. The links, primarily North American and European, are broken down by region. The North American maps concentrate largely on (but are not limited to) the territorial expansion of the United States and the status of slavery at different times (to 1860). The interactive maps require Shockwave software, downloadable from the site.
MLA Style
MLA documentation style, typically used by historians, is one of the “big three,” along with the guidelines published by the American Psychological Association and the University of Chicago Press. The Modern Language Association does not publish its documentation guidelines on the Web. Examples of the most common types of citations are provided in a PDF file prepared by a University of Delaware librarian.
