Le Monde is one of France’s leading newspapers. It began publishing in 1944.

The University of Delaware Library provides access to Le Monde in both electronic and microfilm formats.

The charts below are intended as guides to the electronic and microfilm formats and how to access and use them.

How to Search From the Academic Universe home page, click on News.
Select Non-English Language News for Step One.
Select French Language News for Step Two.
Click the Source List, choose Le Monde from the list provided, and click the “Paste to Search” button. This will paste “Monde, Le” into Step Five: Search this publication title(s).
Enter your search term(s) in the box(es) provided under Step Three.
Narrow to a specific date range (if applicable) in Step Four.
Hit the Search button, and the search will be excuted.

Today's edition From Le Monde's home page, anyone can have access to the current day’s newspaper and read the full text of any article. The various sections of the newspaper are defined across the top of the opening screen.
How to Search On Le Monde's home page, there is a search box at the top of the screen.
Enter the search term(s) in the box, select the time period (today, last 7 days, latest month, latest 12 months, 1987-present), and click on the magnifying glass icon.
A more detailed search can be executed by clicking on "Accédez aux archives du monde." A search screen will appear on which you can specify author, date(s) sequence, general subjects, geographic areas, etc.
Notes Today’s newspaper can be accessed at no charge. There is a fee for reading a full-text article from the archive.

Tips You can use the searching capability of this site as an index to locate articles which have been published in Le Monde from 1987 to the present. Then the articles can be located and read in the Library’s microfilm copy (Microfilm S 110) of the newspaper.

How to Search To locate articles, use the Le Monde Index Analytique (Library Annex AI 21 .M58) for the years 1944-1951 and 1965-1968 (these years are all that were published). To locate articles from 1987 to the present, use the searching capability at Le Monde’s Web site (see above).
Notes Le Monde began publishing in 1944. The Library maintains an archival copy of Le Monde on microfilm for August 1973 to the present. The earlier years are available from the Center for Research Libraries (via Interlibrary Loan).
Microfilm readers and reader/printers are available in the Student Multimedia Design Center on the Lower Level of Morris Library. Assistance is also available there.
