Biography Resource Center.
LOCATION: Library Databases
A comprehensive database of biographical information on more than one million people from throughout history, around the world, and across all disciplines and subject areas.
Britannica Online.
LOCATION: Library Databases
The contents of the Encyclopedia Britannica are available in this database, as are unpublished articles. Also included are the Britannica Book of the Year, which provides annually updated information on current political events, and links to quality Internet sites.
Country Profiles
LOCATION: Library Databases
The Economist Intelligence Unit produces Country Profiles, a series of annual accounts providing background political and economic information on select countries. The profiles are updated by Country Reports, which are produced monthly and EIU ViewsWire, which is updated daily.
CQ Researcher Plus Archive.
LOCATION: Library Databases
Each week this database provides an in-depth report of a single “hot” issue in the news. Topics include a range of social issues, as well as topics on the environment, health, science and technology.
DELCAT. Newark: University of Delaware.
LOCATION: Internet (http://delcat.udel.edu)
Use DELCAT, the catalog of the University of Delaware Library, to locate books, databases and other research materials on your topic. DELCAT also lists the titles of library subscriptions to periodicals (magazines, scholarly journals, and newspapers). To identify articles within periodicals, however, you will need to search a separate index or database.
Expanded Academic ASAP Plus.

An online database which provides references and/or abstracts to articles from more than 1,500 scholarly and general interest periodicals. It also provides the full text of many articles.
LexisNexis Academic.
LOCATION: Library Databases
Provides full-text information on a variety of topics from newspapers, magazines, legal literature, and other sources. Several subfiles are available that may be searched individually, including: General News, World News, and Non-English Language News. An important component of the General News section is the Newsletters section which contains the Latin American Weekly Report. The Reference section also contains country profiles from the CIA and from Waldens, in addition those published in the World Almanac.
LexisNexis Statistical.
LOCATION: Library Databases
An index to statistical publications issued by the federal government, state governments, private publishers, and international and intergovernmental organizations. It includes hypertext links to agency web sites and to the full text of a publication, if the agency has made it available.

News Services

News services provide a summary and record of current affairs and fill the gap created by the time lag in newspaper indexing. The following are good ready-reference sources of names, places, dates, or events.

An intelligence service that offers analysis on key economic, political, and business developments around the world. The database is searchable by country, subject, and keyword.

Keesing's Record of World Events. London: Longman. Monthly.

Records national and international affairs with continually updated indexes and based on information obtained from the press, broadcasting, and official sources. Complementing the news digest section is a reference section which includes cross-indexed and up-to-date background briefing documents. Political and economic data is presented country by country, topic by topic.
World News Connection.

An online news service that offers translated and English-language news compiled by the Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) from non-U.S. media sources, including news agencies, newspapers, and radio and television stations.

Anthropology Plus.

An index to scholarly anthropological literature that incorporates Anthropological Literature from the Tozzer Library at Harvard University and Anthropological Index from The Library of the British Museum Department of Ethnography (Museum of Mankind), incorporating the former Royal Anthropological Institute Library.
Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO).
LOCATION: Library Databases
A comprehensive source for theory and research in international affairs. It includes working papers, conference proceedings, policy briefs, as well as some journal articles and books.
EconLit.
LOCATION: Library Databases
A comprehensive, indexed bibliography with selected abstracts of economic literature. It includes coverage (1969 to the present) of over 400 major journals as well as articles in collected volumes (essays, proceedings, etc.), books, book reviews, dissertations, and working papers.
General BusinessFile ASAP.

An online database (1980 to the present) which provides references and/or abstracts to articles from scholarly and general interest business and economic periodicals. It also provides the full text of many articles. It includes indexing of the current year of the Wall Street Journal and the financial section of the New York Times.
HLAS Online: Handbook of Latin American Studies.

This multidisciplinary database is comprised of scholarly works on Latin America published from 1935 to the present. Journal articles, conference papers, books and individual chapters from edited anthologies are indexed by HLAS Online. Historical Abstracts.

A database (1969 to the present) covering scholarly journal articles, book reviews, and dissertations in world history (excluding the United States and Canada).
MLA International Bibliography.
LOCATION: Library Databases
An index to published scholarly journals and books in literature, language, linguistics, and folklore. Coverage is from 1969 to the present.
PAIS (Public Affairs Information Service).

An electronic index (1972 to the present) to books, periodicals, and government documents on issues concerning public affairs.
Sociological Abstracts.
LOCATION: Library Databases
An electronic index (1974 to the present) with abstracts that covers journal articles, dissertations, and unpublished conference papers in sociology, criminal justice, social work and related social science disciplines.
Women's Studies International.
LOCATION: Library Databases
An interdisciplinary combination of nine important files, containing over 204,000 records drawn from a variety of essential women's studies databases. Included is the Women Studies Abstracts, which indexes women's studies journals from 1984 to the present.
