Searching for Patents by Inventor or Assignee

The Patent and Trademark Office Patent Server allows users to search for patents by inventor or assignee from 1976 to the present.

The CASSIS Bibliographic Information disc contains data that allows the user to search for patents granted since 1975 by the inventor's name and, where applicable, assignee information for patents granted since 1969. The complete patents are not available in this file, just the patent number, the inventor's name and address, and the assigne of the patent rights. To see a brief record of the patent, use the patent number to locate that patent in the Bibliographic Information file. The complete patent may be viewed from the PTO web site or by obtaining the USA/Pat DVD that contains the image.
