Library Instruction to the English Language Institute Information for ELI Instructors International students face numerous challenges when navigating the complex information landscape which characterizes today's academic library. Providing students with an instruction session led by a University of Delaware librarian will give students valuable and up-to-date information literacy skills, including the ability to:
Each Library instruction session is tailored to current class assignments and course objectives. When a Library instruction session is scheduled, a librarian will collaborate with individual instructors to plan a lesson that meets student needs and is sensitive to the class's level of English proficiency. All Library instruction sessions to English Language Institute classes are at least 50 minutes in length and incorporate active learning strategies to allow students to gain hands-on practice in using the Library's resources.
A common exercise that ELI instructors use to familiarize students with the Library is to bring the class to the Library so the students may locate and borrow books from the Library as a group. If you are planning to bring your students to the Library for an exercise of this type, please contact Circulation prior to the date of your visit.
